Ken Hiscock

Head Coach

Coach Hiscock is in his 6th year as head coach of Newsome High School Football program. Prior to becoming a head coach he has coached at Durant High School. He coached defensive line and was the defensive coordinator for a year. When he got to Newsome he was named the defensive coordinator and defensive back / linebacker coach for 2 years. He has 10 years of coaching experience and has been the Head coach of the East vs. West All-star game. He was also named the coach of the year for his division 2 times and been named coach of the week by the Buccaneers organization. Coach Hiscock played football for Durant High School where he was named Beef O Brady’s Athlete of the week, earned 1st Team all Conference and led his team in tackles both years of play. He attended Methodist University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. While attending Methodist he was a middle linebacker. He also earned 1st Team All DIAC and 1st Team All ACFC. At Newsome Coach Hiscock is part of the career and technical department which he teaches agriculture. Coach Hiscock has a wife, Julie and two kids Eli and Kensley.

Justin Shive

Offensive Line/ Strength and Conditioning Coord./ Trainer

Coach Shive is entering his 4th year on the Newsome High School Football staff. He has been coaching for 10 years in both Hillsborough and Orange Counties. Prior to coming to Newsome Coach Shive started his coaching career at Riverview High School where over 5 years he coached defensive backs, linebackers, defensive line, running backs, and special teams coordinator. He also coached 1 year as a linebacker coach for University High School in Orange County. Coach Shive has also been the offensive coordinator at Leto High School and defensive coordinator at Spoto High School. Currently he is the offensive line coach, strength and conditioning coordinator, and trainer. Coach Shive graduated from Saint Leo University with Bachelors of Science in Human Resource Administration. At Newsome Coach Shive is part of the career and technical department where he teaches business technology. He is also a certified Fire Fighter and EMT. Coach Shive has a, wife Shannon and a son name Payton.

Jeff Turner

Offensive Coordinator

Coach Turner is entering his 4th year on the Newsome High School Football staff. Coming to Newsome by way of Kennesaw, GA, he was the Head Coach for North Cobb High School 8th grade team for 4 years. They were NGYFL runner-ups and the first North Cobb team to win a playoff game in the program. Coach Turner spent 6 years as an assistant for North Cobb High School Varsity program. Coaching duties were freshmen offensive coordinator and varsity running backs. He also spent four years at Kennesaw Mountain High School. Coaching duties were freshmen offensive coordinator and varsity receivers. Coach Turner attended Kennesaw State University. He has 3 children – Zach, Scotty, & Ashley.

CJ Yockey

Quarterbacks

Coach Yockey has coached at the high school level for over five years. He is entering his second season with the Newsome High School football staff. In his first season at Newsome, coach Yockey was an assistant running backs coach. During his previous coaching experiences, Coach Yockey was an offensive coordinator at Dr. Lennard High School in Ruskin, Florida. Coach Yockey graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelors in Mathematics. At Newsome High School Coach Yockey teaches Algebra I Honors and Algebra II Regular. Coach Yockey has a wife, Chelsea.

Barry Jacobs

Running Backs

Coach Jacobs is in his 4th year at Newsome High School. Before coming to Newsome Coach Jacobs has been the offensive coordinator for Riverview, Leto, and Spoto High Schools. Coach Jacobs graduated from USF with a degree in Physical Education. He currently teaches in the P.E department at Newsome and is also the Head Girls Flag Football coach.

Tony West

Defensive Backs/ Special Teams Coordinator

Coach West has coached at the High School and Youth Football level for over 12 years across several different states with stops in Utah, Michigan and for the last 9 years in Florida. Coach West is entering his 5th season with the Newsome Football team and has coached Defensive Line, Defensive Backs and Special Teams. Prior to joining Newsome he was an assistant coach for Defensive Backs and Special Teams at Durant High School. Coach West lettered in Football and Soccer at Coral Springs HS. In Football, he led the state of Florida in interceptions and total turnovers as a senior while earning All Broward County, All-East Coast Conference, All-State and was named the Broward County Defensive Player of the Year in 1983. After graduating high school Coach West attended Florida State University where he was a walk-on with the Football team and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He is currently the Vice President of Sales for Schiff Nutrition International. Coach West and his wife, Kelli have four children – Brian, Kyle, Ally & Andrew.

Jason McCarty

Defensive Backs

Coach McCarty began his coaching carrier at Newsome High school in 2006. In addition to football, Coach Mac is the sprints and jumps coach for the Wolves track and field team. Born in Plant city he later graduated from George Jenkins High school in Lakeland where he was a member of the football, track and power lifting teams. Earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports medicine coach Mac was an All Conference selection in both football and Track and Field. Honors included Track and field Indoor and Outdoor MVP and Shrine 51st Oyster bowl MVP. Coach Mac has a son named Blayde.

Robby Vetzel

Defensive Line

Coach Vetzel coached at the High School and youth football level for 16 years. He is entering my 5th season with the Newsome High School football staff. The first year coach Vetzel was at Newsome he was the offensive line coach. Since then he has been the defensive line coach. Prior to coaching at Newsome, coach Vetzel was the defensive coordinator for Durant High School JV football team. He also served as a head coach and defensive coordinator for 14 years in youth football. Coach Vetzel started the Brandon Bolts AAU travel basketball league where he served as vice president and coach for 7 years; also coaching a youth basketball team for 10 years. Coach Vetzel graduated from Brandon High School in 1984 and attended Hillsborough Community College. He is the owner of Door To Door Dry Cleaners for the past 15 years. Coach Vetzel and his wife Kim have two children, Ryan and Cheyanne.

Fred Velazquez

Defensive Line

Coach Velazquez is entering his 3rd year on the Newsome High School Football staff. Prior to joining Newsome he coached all levels of Youth Football for over 13 years in both New York and Florida. Coach Velazquez played Football at Brentwood HS in Long Island, New York where he was an All-League I Nose Tackle. After high school he attended Wagner College where he was a member of the 1987 NCAA Division III National Championship team. He then went on to play at Stony Brook University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Coach Velazquez and his wife, Ingrid, have three sons – Christian, Nicholas & Jonathan.

Aaron Haygood

Wide Recievers

Coach Haygood currently teaches AP World History here at Newsome. Coach Haygood was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his Bachelors Degree in education from Auburn University and his Masters from the University of South Florida in Educational Leadership. Coach Haygood is currently in his 6yh year of teaching and coaching, starting out his career at Mulrennan Middle school in Valrico. Now the Varsity wide receivers coach, he was previously the Head JV Coach where he led them to a 14-4 record during his three year tenure. Coach Haygood is also an Assistant Track Coach. He and his wife Courtney are newlyweds and hope to have children someday.
